This Month’s Cover: Anything (ADRIANNE LENKER)
Adrianne Lenker is the amazing lead vocalist and guitarist, songwriter of Big Thief. To us, Adrianne is one of those once in a lifetime songwriters who will continue to shape her lane for years to come. I remember the first time we heard Big Thief on NPR as we were releasing our debut album and were blown away by their energy, uniqueness and musicianship. Adrianne released two solo records in the aftermath of a breakup and after touring was cancelled due to the pandemic in an isolated cabin in Massachusetts. I think 'Anything' is an example of a recording you can touch, feel, and live inside of. You can hear the surroundings, the isolation, you can hear the story unfold in her mind and feel it alive in her fingers. The first time we heard it, it stopped us in our tracks. It is steeped in an intangible emotion that most of our favorite songs are able to achieve, so we were inspired to have a go at capturing that in our own way! We hope you enjoy our take on 'Anything' by the wonderful Adrianne Lenker. ALSO - WOW did it feel good to play this together in the same room! If you haven’t already please do yourself a favor and check out her records.

Interview with KC Dalager (Now, Now)
Here at The Raincoat Chronicles, we're continuing with short interviews with people in our world who we find inspiring. As always, we've decided each question can be answered with anything BUT text.
KC and her bandmate Bradley Hale are the band Now, Now from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I met KC shortly before the pandemic at a mutual friends show while she was visiting Los Angeles. We Immediately hit it off just shooting the shit about touring, music, etc. As the pandemic dragged on we kept in touch, both through social media and text, often commiserating about how hard it was to stay inspired, or sharing different ways we were working on trying to stay in a healthy mental state. (we might have even taken a Yoga class on zoom together lol). During the pandemic KC started exploring her songwriting for a solo record, she shared some early demos with us, and wow are we in for a treat. KC has such a magnetic personality and is always finding the beauty and positivity in every situation. Of course she answered these questions from such an inspired place. We are so happy to welcome our friend KC Dalager to the RC.
Augment reality.

What has your path looked like?
Rid the fear, clear the grid.
What gives you hope?

Have you ever been too early to a Hoobastank concert? Perhaps a stroll through the bass hallway of your regional guitar center? Or even just enjoying your daily bud at the Hard Rock Cafe? Chances are, you’ve caught yourself asking the same question, time and time again: what the heck are those and how do I get some? Wonder no more. I’d like to welcome you to the cotton and slightly polyester world of Jorts. For centuries, roadies, mid life grippers, and Vans outlet employees have been enjoying the plethora of reasons to indulge in a pair of denim shorts. I myself prefer to take a classic Levi 511, cut well above the knee, with a slight fray. As we survive the scorch of summer, don’t suffer through with your spring wardrobe. Take a gander in that bottom drawer. Those jeans you bought at Zumiez in ’06 have seen their glory days, but the best is yet to come. Grab those garden shears and let ‘er rip. Levi Strauss himself would shed a tear at the sight of a warped tour mosh pit. So many jorts, so much pride, so little worry. At the end of the day, if Bob Weir does it, why shouldn’t you?

This is a deeply personal story about identity and belonging to a country coming apart at the seams. The story explores a Pakistani father and son’s relationship, what it means for immigrants in an America post 9/11 and post Trump’s America by blending both fact and fiction. This nation's unhealed wounds continue to wreak havoc around the world and Akhtar attempts to make sense of it all through the story of his family, from the heartland of America to the guerrilla lookouts in the mountains of Afghanistan. Go get it now. We all need this perspective.
