Hey Everyone!
Welcome to Volume 2 of The RC. We are in the final stages of LM2 and are headed off to Seattle next week to finish the very last bits and pieces of our album w. our friend and producer of LM1, Chris Walla. In the meantime we are so excited for Volume 2. This month features an interview with the amazing Adam Granduciel of The War On Drugs and a cover of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. Thanks so much for being here!
Hang in there, much love

This Month’s Cover: PLANET CARAVAN (BLACK SABBATH)
Let’s imagine Black Sabbath in 1970 stepping into Regent Studios just four months after their massive debut record was released to start work on what would become Paranoid. As the story goes this record was built mostly out of improvised in-studio jams, and there is no better demonstration of that than the third track Planet Caravan. I remember a very specific night on tour in freezing Montreal, where we sat in our hotel room and BLASTED Paranoid on repeat, while playing FIFA (YUP, I felt bad for the neighbors). After Planet Caravan ended we all sat there completely mesmerized. No matter how many times you’ve heard a record, when you share a moment like that it’s a feeling you don’t forget, THAT’S the power of music. The spirit of that song is something we are always striving to capture in our band, that je ne sais quoi, that lightning in a bottle. I don’t think there’s any doubt a ton of our favorite bands were inspired by this record and we put a little gem in our version that suggests one band you might recognize (wink wink). We hope you dig our take on the amazing Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath! Feel free to download the mp3 here.
Interview with Adam Granduciel (The War On Drugs)
Here at The Raincoat Chronicles, we're continuing with short interviews with people in our world who we find inspiring. As always, we've decided each question can be answered with anything BUT text.
Adam Granduciel is best known as the guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer of the amazing band The War On Drugs. Anyone who knows us will know about our love and deep respect for the WOD. As well as touring with them a couple years back, Adam is someone we’ve been super lucky to get to know on a personal level. He’s been there to help us in various ways at a few crucial moments. Adam really has been a true guiding light for us on our weird and winding path. His dedication to his art and complete reverence for making records is something we all aspire to. We can’t wait to see where his sonic journey takes us next and hopefully we all learn a little something we didn’t know about him here.
What’s something of yours that only you appreciate the true value of?
When do you know something is finished?
What has your journey looked like?
What gives you faith?
How do you handle pressure?
Where do we go from here?
What did you first think when you heard the name Lo Moon?

Wind of Change : Pineapple Street Media / Crooked Media
Have you ever wondered if there was a CIA-guarded, Cold War era espionage secret behind one of the biggest and most beloved hair metal power ballads of all time? Probably not, but maybe.
Wind Of Change is a highly bingeable, 8 episode podcast series which investigates the conspiracy theory behind The Scorpions’ 1990 super smash hit Wind Of Change, and the rumors surrounding it —mainly the rumor that the song was secretly penned by CIA operatives in attempt to subliminally penetrate the Iron Curtain and subvert the communist agenda through the power of popular music.
Yep, that really is a thing and if you’re anything like me, you will be utterly fascinated.

Our wonderful friend Alison Tavel introduced us to the Resynator a few years ago and brought it to the studio for our first record. It’s an instrument-controlled, monophonic, pitch-tracking synthesizer invented by her father, Don Tavel, in the '70s. It can be controlled by anything from vocals to drums. It creates sounds that are otherworldly to somewhat familiar- brass, woodwinds, etc. This synth has been an absolute joy to explore, every sound is inspiring and unique. Alison is currently working on making more Resynators, VSTs and songs featuring the Resynator. Find out more about the Resynator here.
